DESCRIPTION:The New Year is upon us and many of us are thinking about our fitness goals for 2021! We are\, however\, still in a pandemic that has canceled or postponed many of our in-person swimmeets\, triathlons\, and open water swims. For me\, swimming is not just about physical fitness\, but the mental health fitness it provides as well.  There is nothing more therapeutic than the steady rhythm of your breath as you glide through the water\, the high you feel after a solid workout and the joy found gathering with other master swimmers who love this sport as much as you. As Area Director of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)\, Montana and Wyoming Chapters\, it seems only natural to bring these two passions together.   \nThe Mission of the AFSP is to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide.  AFSP Montana Chapter was founded in 2001 and has been working to educate Montana about suicide prevention\, advocate for legislation that will save lives\, and support those who’ve experienced loss or who have lived experience. \n  \nContact Katie Levine for more details \nklevine@afsp.org

DESCRIPTION:This is not a USMS sanctioned event\, but members of the LMSC BOD find it important to still provide information and opportunities to our members in Montana about opportunities to keep swimming during these trying times.  \nDetails\nSaturday\, August 8\, 2020. 1 mile swim in Whitefish Lake\, starting and finishing at Whitefish City Beach. Swimmers will note their estimated 1 mile swim time upon registering\, and will be placed in an appropriate swimming heat. You will be allowed to line up at the start only at your designated heat time. Swimmers in each heat will begin the swim two at a time\, five seconds apart. Heats will be swam fastest to slowest. Please note social distancing will be enforced. \nPublic parking will be open the morning of the race. Please obey all street signs. Come prepared to swim! Race nutrition will be limited to snacks included in your race packet. Please plan accordingly for your own nutrition before and after the race. DESCRIPTION:This is not a USMS sanctioned event\, but members of the LMSC BOD find it important to still provide information and opportunities to our members in Montana about opportunities to keep swimming during these trying times.  \nDescription\nThis event is July 1 – 31\, where participants can complete fifteen different events on their own time and submit results to rack up points. Successful completion of events earns points. Weekly progress reporting to the event directors is encouraged. The top three participants who earn the most points will be awarded prizes at the end of the month. \nRegistration closed on June 29\, but feel free to complete these events on your own and see how many points you can get. SUMMARY:2020 Open Water Virtual Grand Slam
DESCRIPTION:This is not a USMS sanctioned event\, but members of the LMSC BOD find it important to still provide information and opportunities to our members in Montana about opportunities to keep swimming during these trying times.  \nDescription\nThis is a summer-long\, 4-race open water competition where participants swim and submit their times in the four competitive triathlon distances. Each stage is scored individually and there is a cumulative result of combined times at the completion of all four distances. There are categories for wetsuit\, non-wetsuit\, and both. Grand slam rankings will be updated weekly and posted online at the host website and Meet Mobile. We obviously want this to be a successful meet\, not only for the swimmers but for the budget (KCAC is an expensive pool to rent!). \nThe event date is the day before entries are due for LCM nationals\, which makes this a great opportunity for swimmers to get times if they want to enter the meet in Mission Viejo.
